Artist Reflections

Art is a reflection of the emotions, personal struggle, and the events of a contemporary society during the time period that it was created. Art is very important in society because it is an essential ingredient to empowering the hearts and minds of people. It speaks on a visual level to help others understand and depicting culture from all over the world. However, artwork is so diverse that there are as many ways to understand it as there are many different types of people in the world. Artwork is more than just a pretty picture on a canvas, an old artifact or sculpture but rather has something to say. Whatever the artwork may be, it speaks more than just its visual appeals, who made it, where was it made, what was the artists’ intent and how does it fit within in an exhibit to properly portray deeper meaning. With that said, since society influences art, it is up to the institutions who showcase it not only preserve the quality of the collection, but to present art in a manner that illustrate its importance and meaning.
